Tourism, Sport and Major Events

We support the sector's growth through the facilitation of investment in the city. Destination tourism and major event activities are led by Experience Gold Coast . The upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games creates an opportunity to showcase the Gold Coast's offerings in this sector.

Diversifying our traditional strength in tourism to expand into sporting and major events

Famous for its sunshine, golden beaches and luscious hinterland, the Gold Coast offers a vibrant mix of natural beauty. Add major events, entertainment attractions and world-class accommodation to the mix and the city has the perfect blend for tourism to thrive. It has shaped the composition of the Gold Coast economy.

The Gold Coast continually sees new investments from both global players and local industry providers. Most recently, Great Eagle Holdings (Hong Kong) opened The Langham Gold Coast on the beachfront which quickly became a sought-after experience.

Amongst the city's new developments are long-time favourites including The Star Gold Coast, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Ardent Leisure's Dreamworld, and Village Roadshow's Movie World and Sea World, which continue to expand their offerings to retain the Gold Coast’s allure as a tourist destination.

An active city with a love of sport

Our city is a natural fit to host sporting events and training with a variety of professional-level facilities across a range of disciplines.

We hosted the 2018 Commonwealth Games, leaving a legacy of world-class infrastructure that has taken our reputation as an active city to a whole new level.

The city is a hub of sporting excellence across high-performance training, international sport events, education, sport science, specialised clinicians, coaching staff, sport management, and product manufacturing.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Master Plan outlines Olympic and Paralympic sports occurring across our city, including 6 of the city’s major venues.
