The opportunity

Miami Arts Depot will repurpose the former City of Gold Coast depot site into a mixed-use creative industries precinct that strengthens the Gold Coast’s cultural and economic landscape.

Delivered in partnership with the private sector, this landmark project will:

• Support the growth of the city’s screen, tech, gaming and visual effects sectors
• Deliver new residential, retail, and commercial spaces
• Create vibrant public spaces and community facilities that celebrate Miami’s unique 

The vision draws inspiration from global creative districts like Brooklyn Navy Yard (New York) and Greenwich Design District (London) while shaping a precinct that reflects the Gold Coast’s distinctive lifestyle and urban energy.

The vision

A priority project for the City, Miami Arts Depot is set to become an arts and lifestyle destination, combining:

• A cluster of creative industries – film, gaming, tech, visual effects
• Retail, dining, and residential uses
• Community facilities and green, welcoming public spaces

This eclectic mix will fuel a thriving arts district, attract investment, and provide long-term community benefits.

Why now?

The Gold Coast is already a leading global destination for screen production.

• In the year to June 2024, the sector supported close to 3,456 local jobs and more than $389 million in value-added.
• By 2028, this sector is forecast to grow by 11%.

The city is attracting international attention, with Shadowbox Studios planning to develop a major production facility at Yatala and Baz Luhrmann establishing his global headquarters on the Miami depot site. Miami Arts Depot will build on this momentum as a catalyst for the next wave of creative industry investment.

Next steps

Invest Gold Coast is preparing to take the Miami Arts Depot proposal to market to engage a delivery partner – transforming the former depot site into a world leading hub for creativity, innovation, and community.

The formal market transaction process will commence in late 2025.
