Modscape + Modbotics today marked the official start of construction on its new 50,000 square metre advanced manufacturing facility at Yatala, Gold Coast, with a sod-turning ceremony.

The milestone follows development approval for the site and the appointment of CIP Constructions as construction partner, marking the project's transition from planning to delivery.

Once complete, the Yatala facility will provide a large-scale, purpose-built operational base for the delivery of volumetric and panelised construction across Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The facility is projected to deliver approximately 2,000 modules a year once fully operational.

“Breaking ground at Yatala is a significant milestone for our business and our future in Queensland,” said Jan Gyrn. “More than a new facility, it’s an investment in people and capability. It gives us the permanent base we need to grow our local team, further industrialise construction in Queensland, and deliver high-quality buildings faster, with greater certainty, and at a scale we simply couldn’t achieve before.”

The development is being delivered by Frasers Property Industrial, which progressed the site's development approval and is building the new purpose-built premises.

Following a comprehensive site selection process across South East Queensland, the Yatala site was chosen for its scale, sustainability initiatives, connectivity and strategic location – with support from Invest Gold Coast's Investment Attraction Program.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “Modscape + Modbotics choosing to build a facility of this scale at Yatala is a powerful vote of confidence in our city as a destination for advanced manufacturing.

“It is also a significant step to rapidly address housing supply issues across the Gold Coast and beyond, in line with our ambition to become Australia’s modular home manufacturing hub.”

The Yatala facility is expected to support approximately 700 jobs in total — including around 400 jobs during construction and around 300 ongoing roles — and contribute to the ongoing growth of Queensland's manufacturing and construction sector, enabling the delivery of high-quality buildings at scale.

Modscape + Modbotics has been active in Queensland for over a decade and has delivered more than 600 projects nationally across its 20 years of operation. The company's first Queensland manufacturing facility opened in Helensvale, and was rapidly outgrown, prompting a move to a larger facility in Archerfield in 2025. The next stage of its expansion is the purpose-built Yatala facility, now under construction and expected to be operational from mid-2027.
