Gold Coast shortlisted in Global Production Awards 2025
The Gold Coast has been shortlisted in the City of Film category of the Global Production Awards 2025, alongside New York City, Belfast, Zagreb and Sydney.
The awards celebrate outstanding and sustainable work in the world of film and TV production, locations and studios.
Mayor Tom Tate says we are excited to be one of five cities around the world shortlisted for this major category in the awards.
“This is significant recognition of Gold Coast’s work to attract productions and investment, and grow the screen industry ecosystem to truly compete on an international scale,” he says.
“We have put in the hard yards to make our city a place film makers want to come while also supporting and growing local skills to ensure depth of crew.”
Chair of Invest Gold Coast, Hon. Will Hodgman, also welcomed the news.
“Already we have the second largest screen industry in Australia, and we are moving forward with the establishment of a second major studio complex in the north of the city which will make the Gold Coast the most sought-after destination for screen production in the Southern Hemisphere,” says Mr Hodgman.
The Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program, managed by Invest Gold Coast, is the first of its kind in Australia for a local government, providing financial support for film and television productions, including streaming platforms, online production, post-production and animation.
The incentive has helped to attract dozens of productions to the city, generating $571.6 million in the year ending June 2023 to the local economy. The sector supported 4832 jobs in the same period.
The Gold Coast is also a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), a global non-profit organisation that provides advocacy, connectivity and education for film commissions and screen businesses.
The Global Production Awards will be held at the Mademoiselle Gray Plage Barrière during the Cannes Film Festival on 19 May 2025.
