Council calls ‘action’ on Miami Arts Depot
City of Gold Coast today endorsed a market process to seek development partners for the transformation of the former Miami Council Depot into a mixed-use creative industries precinct.
The precinct, to be known as Miami Arts Depot, is proposed for the 40,000m2 former depot site.
It will integrate screen production, technology, visual effects, gaming and innovation alongside inviting community spaces and residential, retail and commercial offerings.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the project delivers economic, cultural and community value for the city.
“I am excited to see this project move to the next stage that will include an Expression of Interest market process,” Mayor Tate said.
“This is an opportunity to transform an underutilised site into a precinct that creates jobs, attracts more investment into the film and television sector, and delivers long-term value for our community by stimulating urban renewal in Miami.
“Councillors recognised the enormous potential of this development as a creative industries hub and also as a place that will support new businesses, community spaces, high quality public realm and a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood that is uniquely Gold Coast.”
Independent analysis estimates the project could generate $131 million in economic activity and support more than 1,000 jobs a year.
Mayor Tate said the project would build on the Gold Coast’s established strengths in screen production and creative industries.
“Our city leads the nation in the film industry and the jobs and economic activity it supports. Miami Arts Depot is the sequel in that success story expanding our capability in high-value sectors like post-production, visual effect and digital content.”
Council has committed to work with the State Government to implement an appropriate planning instrument to ensure the project meets its economic and community objectives.
The project is led by City of Gold Coast’s commercial advisory arm, Invest Gold Coast, which will manage the Expression of Interest process to identify development partners capable of delivering this project.
The Expression of Interest is expected to commence later this month, with a preferred proponent anticipated by mid-2027.
